What Defines the Garnet Group

A family of silicate minerals sharing the same crystal structure (isometric) but varying widely in composition. The six main species - almandine, pyrope, spessartine, grossular, andradite, and uvarovite - produce colors from deep red to vivid green. Garnets have been used as gemstones since the Bronze Age.
